Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and reliable Pallet Repair Handyman to join our team at our Port aux Basques facility. In this role, you will be responsible for the inspection, repair, and maintenance of wooden pallets, ensuring they meet safety and quality standards for use in our logistics operations. This is a hands-on position requiring the use of hand and power tools to replace broken boards, reinforce structures, and maintain the integrity of our pallet inventory. Attention to detail, a commitment to safety, and a good work ethic are essential for success in this role.
Key Responsibilities
- Inspect incoming and outgoing pallets for damage, including broken boards, missing components, and structural weaknesses.
- Perform repairs on wooden pallets using various hand and power tools, such as hammers, nail guns, saws, and pry bars.
- Replace broken or damaged wooden boards, blocks, and stringers according0 to established specifications.
- Ensure repaired pallets meet quality standards and are safe for material handling and transportation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring tools and equipment are properly stored and maintained.
- Adhere to all company safety policies and procedures, including the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Operate a forklift or pallet jack to move pallets as needed (certification preferred, training can be provided).
- Assist with general warehouse duties as required.
Required Skills
- Basic carpentry skills and understanding of wood structures.
- Proficiency in using common hand tools (hammer, pry bar, measuring tape).
- Experience with power tools such as nail guns, saws, and drills.
- Ability to perform repetitive tasks, including lifting and standing for extended periods.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of and adherence to workplace safety practices.
Preferred Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- 1 year of experience in a warehouse, construction, or general maintenance role.
- Previous experience specifically with pallet repair or carpentry.
- Forklift operator certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Valid driver's license.
