Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Control Systems (PLC) Engineer to join our dynamic team in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This role involves the design, development, implementation, and commissioning of industrial control systems, primarily utilizing Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) and Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs). The successful candidate will play a critical role in delivering cutting-edge automation solutions for various industrial clients. We offer visa sponsorship for qualified international candidates.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and program PLC (e.g., Rockwell, Siemens, Modicon) and HMI/SCADA applications from scratch or modify existing programs based on project specifications.
  • Configure and troubleshoot industrial communication networks (e.g., Ethernet/IP, Profinet, Modbus TCP/IP).
  • Perform system testing, validation, and on-site commissioning of control systems.
  • Develop detailed engineering documentation, including functional specifications, design documents, test plans, and as-built drawings.
  • Provide technical support and training to clients and internal teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including electrical engineers, mechanical engineers, and project managers.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety regulations, and project timelines.
  • Participate in project planning, estimating, and proposal development as required.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in programming and troubleshooting PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens S7, etc.).
  • Experience with HMI/SCADA development platforms (e.g., FactoryTalk View, WinCC, Ignition).
  • Strong understanding of industrial automation principles and control theory.
  • Familiarity with various industrial communication protocols.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and P&IDs.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with servo motion control and robotics.
  • Knowledge of SQL databases and data acquisition systems.
  • Experience with industrial cybersecurity best practices.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng) designation or eligibility.
  • PMP certification or experience in project management.
  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
