Job Description
Are you passionate about making a real difference in people’s lives from the comfort of your own home? Lifeline Australia is seeking compassionate and dedicated individuals to join our team as Text-Based Crisis Support Workers. This fully remote, full-time position offers a unique opportunity to provide vital support to individuals in distress via our digital platforms. You will engage with people through text conversations, offering empathetic listening, risk assessment, and pathways to further support, all while upholding a non-judgmental and supportive environment. Comprehensive, paid training will be provided, making this an excellent opportunity for those looking to start a career in mental health support or contribute to a crucial cause. This role is 100% remote, allowing you to work from anywhere with a stable internet connection.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond promptly and empathetically to text-based conversations from individuals experiencing crisis.
- Actively listen, assess risk, and de-escalate crisis situations using established protocols and training.
- Provide emotional support, validation, and encourage help-seeking behaviors.
- Document interactions accurately and maintain client confidentiality and data integrity.
- Collaborate with supervisors and colleagues as needed to ensure best practice and support.
- Participate in ongoing training, supervision, and professional development sessions.
- Adhere to all organizational policies, ethical guidelines, and crisis intervention standards.
Required Skills
- Exceptional written communication skills, with clear, concise, and empathetic expression.
- High level of empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental attitude towards all individuals.
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and resilient under pressure and during challenging interactions.
- Strong active listening and problem-solving abilities, even in a text-based environment.
- Proficiency with digital communication tools and comfortable with text-based interaction.
- Reliable internet connection and a private, quiet, and secure workspace at home.
- Commitment to continuous learning and strict adherence to ethical guidelines and confidentiality.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in customer service, support roles, or volunteering is a plus.
- Understanding of basic mental health challenges and crisis intervention principles.
- Relevant qualifications in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field (not mandatory but beneficial).
- Bilingual abilities (any language) to support a diverse client base.
