Job Description

As the Academic Department Head for International Sponsorship, you will lead and manage academic programs specifically designed for students under international sponsorship agreements. This pivotal role involves curriculum oversight, faculty management, student success initiatives, and fostering strong relationships with international sponsoring bodies and governmental agencies. You will ensure the academic integrity and cultural relevance of all programs while navigating the unique requirements of international student cohorts. This position reports to the Dean of Academic Affairs and plays a crucial role in advancing the university’s global initiatives and commitment to international education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development, delivery, and assessment of academic programs tailored for international sponsored students.
  • Lead, mentor, and evaluate faculty members within the department, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.
  • Manage departmental budgets, resources, and administrative operations effectively and transparently.
  • Act as the primary liaison with international sponsoring organizations and governmental agencies, ensuring compliance with all agreements and reporting requirements.
  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance the academic success, retention, and cultural integration of international students.
  • Collaborate closely with admissions, student services, international programs, and other university offices to ensure a seamless and supportive student experience.
  • Stay abreast of global trends in higher education, international student mobility, and best practices in sponsored student management.
  • Represent the university at relevant international education forums, conferences, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Contribute to the university's strategic planning related to internationalization and global engagement.

Required Skills

  • Proven leadership and management experience (minimum 5 years) in an academic or higher education setting.
  • Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and cross-cultural skills, with a strong ability to engage diverse stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of higher education principles, curriculum development, and program administration.
  • Demonstrated experience working with international student populations and international sponsorship programs.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to navigate complex cultural, institutional, and regulatory environments.
  • Proficiency in data analysis and program evaluation to inform decision-making.
  • Master's degree in a relevant academic field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or terminal degree in a relevant academic field.
  • Demonstrated success in curriculum development, program innovation, and assessment.
  • Fluency in a second language relevant to international student populations.
  • Experience with international student recruitment or partnership development.
  • Knowledge of U.S. immigration regulations pertaining to international students (e.g., F-1, J-1 visas).
  • Experience in grant writing or securing external funding for international initiatives.
