Job Description

Join AtkinsRealis as an Environmental Science & Sustainability Intern and gain invaluable hands-on experience in both field and office environments. This internship offers a unique opportunity to contribute to real-world sustainability projects, learn from expert professionals, and develop foundational skills in environmental assessment, data analysis, and regulatory compliance. This is an entry-level position where full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior environmental scientists in conducting field surveys, data collection, and site assessments across various project locations.
  • Process and analyze environmental data, utilizing standard methodologies and preparing initial reports and presentations.
  • Conduct research on environmental regulations, policies, and best practices relevant to ongoing projects.
  • Support the development of sustainability strategies and impact assessments for a diverse range of projects.
  • Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams on project planning and execution.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all project activities, ensuring compliance with internal and external standards.
  • Participate in client meetings and internal workshops, contributing to project discussions and learning from experienced professionals.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated (within 12 months) from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Environmental Science, Sustainability, Ecology, Geography, or a closely related scientific or engineering field.
  • Demonstrable strong interest and passion for environmental protection and sustainable development.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for data management and report generation.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Eagerness to learn, adapt to new challenges, and take initiative in a fast-paced professional environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Basic understanding of GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) for mapping and spatial analysis.
  • Introductory knowledge of UK environmental legislation and policy frameworks.
  • A valid UK driving license, as some field work may require travel to various sites.
  • Previous academic project experience with data analysis tools or statistical software.
