Job Description
Mount Wellington College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Science Lab Assistant to join our high school department. This vital role supports our science educators and students by ensuring our laboratories are safe, well-stocked, and conducive to effective learning. The successful candidate will play a key role in preparing experiments, maintaining equipment, and assisting with general lab operations, contributing directly to a dynamic and engaging science curriculum. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare laboratory equipment and materials for practical lessons across various science disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) as per teacher requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of all science laboratories, preparation rooms, and storage areas.
- Manage chemical inventories, ensuring safe storage, handling, and disposal in accordance with health and safety regulations.
- Assist teachers and students during practical sessions, providing support and guidance as needed.
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and apparatus.
- Order and receive laboratory supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper record-keeping.
- Oversee the care and maintenance of live specimens (e.g., plants, small animals) used for biological experiments.
- Conduct safety checks on equipment and facilities, reporting any hazards or faults promptly.
- Support the development and implementation of new experiments and teaching resources.
Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of scientific principles and laboratory procedures.

Preferred Qualifications

- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Working with Children Check (or willingness to obtain one).
