Job Description

As a Fire Control Operator, you will be a vital part of our integrated security operations in Edinburgh. This role involves monitoring advanced fire detection systems, CCTV, and other security technologies from a dedicated control room. You will be responsible for quickly identifying potential fire hazards, initiating emergency response procedures, and coordinating with emergency services and on-site personnel. Excellent communication skills, the ability to remain calm under pressure, and a keen eye for detail are paramount in this critical role. Full training on our specific systems will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor fire alarm systems, CCTV, and other detection equipment around the clock.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to all fire alarms and emergency calls.
  • Initiate and coordinate emergency response procedures, including notifying relevant personnel and emergency services.
  • Maintain accurate logs and incident reports of all activities and events.
  • Operate and manage communication systems to liaise with on-site security teams and external agencies.
  • Conduct regular checks of equipment functionality and report any faults.
  • Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and national fire safety regulations.
  • Assist in emergency evacuations and provide clear instructions when necessary.
  • Contribute to a safe and secure working environment.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a control room, security, or emergency services environment.
  • Strong understanding of fire safety principles and emergency procedures.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to remain calm and make critical decisions under pressure.
  • Proficiency in using computer systems and security software.
  • Attention to detail and strong observational skills.
  • Valid SIA Licence (Security Industry Authority) or willingness to obtain one.
  • Ability to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience specifically as a Fire Control Operator or similar role.
  • First Aid qualification.
  • Experience with specific fire alarm monitoring platforms.
  • Knowledge of local emergency service protocols in Edinburgh.
