Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Ambulance Dispatch Assistant to join our critical operations team in Mount Gambier. This full-time role offers a competitive salary package, including attractive weekend penalty rates, recognising the essential nature of your contribution. As an Ambulance Dispatch Assistant, you will be the central point of contact, responsible for efficiently receiving emergency calls, assessing urgency, and dispatching appropriate ambulance resources to ensure rapid response and optimal patient care across the region. Key Responsibilities

  • Efficiently receive, assess, and prioritise emergency and non-emergency calls from the public and other agencies.
  • Accurately dispatch appropriate ambulance crews and resources to incidents based on established protocols and urgency.
  • Maintain continuous communication with ambulance crews, providing critical updates, support, and information during incidents.
  • Monitor the status and location of all operational ambulance units using advanced dispatch systems.
  • Accurately document all call details, dispatch actions, and incident information in the dispatch system.
  • Collaborate effectively with other emergency services (Police, Fire) and healthcare providers.
  • Adhere strictly to all SA Ambulance Service policies, procedures, and communication protocols.
  • Assist in managing resource allocation and deployment during peak periods or major incidents.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 12 months experience in a fast-paced call center, customer service, or administrative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm, focused, and effective in high-pressure situations.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a clear and concise telephone manner.
  • Strong geographical knowledge of the Mount Gambier region and surrounding areas, or ability to learn quickly.
  • Proficiency in basic computer skills and the ability to learn specialised dispatch software rapidly.
  • Excellent organisational skills and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to multitask and prioritise effectively in a dynamic work environment.
  • A valid Australian driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in an emergency services dispatch, medical call center, or public safety role.
  • Formal qualifications in emergency management, public safety, or a related field.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
