Job Description
Central Health is actively seeking a dedicated and skilled Surgical Technologist to join our dynamic operating room team at the James Paton Memorial Regional Health Centre in Gander, Newfoundland and Labrador. This is an exciting opportunity for qualified professionals, including international applicants, to contribute to a vital healthcare system. The Surgical Technologist will be responsible for preparing the operating room, assisting the surgical team during procedures, and ensuring a sterile environment. You will play a crucial role in patient safety and surgical success, working collaboratively with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain the sterile field and instruments during surgical procedures.
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and provide appropriate instrumentation and supplies.
- Assist with draping, gowning, and gloving surgical team members.
- Perform surgical counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments with the circulating nurse.
- Maintain an organized and clean operating room environment.
- Handle specimens safely and accurately as directed by the surgeon.
- Assist with patient positioning and transfer.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and infection control protocols.
Required Skills
- Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology program.
- Current certification as a Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent international qualification.
- Ability to maintain a sterile field.
- Excellent manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Knowledge of surgical procedures, instruments, and aseptic techniques.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of recent experience as a Surgical Technologist in an acute care setting.
- Experience with various surgical specialties (e.g., general, orthopedic, obstetrics/gynecology).
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- Familiarity with Canadian healthcare standards and practices.
