Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Landscape Architecture Intern to join our dynamic team in Kelowna for the upcoming summer term. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in both studio design processes and practical field work. You will work alongside experienced landscape architects, contributing to diverse projects from conceptual design through to construction documentation and site observation. This entry-level role is perfect for students looking to apply their academic knowledge in a professional setting and develop a foundational understanding of the landscape architecture profession. Full training and mentorship will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with site analysis, research, and data collection.
- Prepare conceptual designs, sketches, and graphic presentations under supervision.
- Develop technical drawings, plans, and details using AutoCAD and other software.
- Participate in site visits, taking notes, measurements, and photographic documentation.
- Support project teams with material selection, specifications, and cost estimating.
- Contribute to the preparation of project reports and presentations.
- Learn and apply local zoning bylaws and environmental regulations.
- Perform administrative tasks as required to support project workflow.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from an accredited Landscape Architecture program.
- Basic understanding of landscape architecture principles and design processes.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong graphic communication and freehand sketching abilities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Eagerness to learn and take initiative.
- Valid driver's license and access to reliable transportation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator).
- Experience with 3D modeling software (e.g., SketchUp, Rhino).
- Basic knowledge of plant materials native to British Columbia.
- Previous experience with fieldwork or construction observation is a plus, but not required.
- Demonstrated passion for sustainable design and environmental stewardship.
