Job Description

As a Trainee Mental Health Support Worker, you will receive comprehensive training to equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide crucial support to individuals managing mental health conditions. Your role will involve assisting clients with daily living activities, promoting independence, facilitating access to community resources, and offering emotional support. This entry-level position is ideal for individuals eager to learn, grow, and contribute positively to the mental health sector without needing prior professional experience. You will work under the guidance of experienced professionals, participating in a structured training program designed to ensure your success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Participate actively in all provided training programs and workshops.
  • Provide empathetic and person-centered support to individuals with mental health challenges.
  • Assist clients in developing and maintaining independent living skills, such as meal preparation, budgeting, and household management.
  • Facilitate access to community resources, including housing, employment, education, and healthcare services.
  • Offer emotional support and encouragement, helping clients build self-esteem and coping strategies.
  • Monitor and report on client progress and any changes in their well-being to senior staff.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized support plans.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in accordance with privacy policies.
  • Advocate for clients' rights and needs within the community.
  • Engage clients in social and recreational activities to promote integration and reduce isolation.

Required Skills

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both verbal and written.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience in a volunteer capacity related to support services or community work.
  • Knowledge of local community resources in Regina.
  • Ability to speak additional languages commonly used in the community.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a reliable vehicle (asset).
