Job Description

AECOM is seeking a dedicated and experienced Archaeologist / Heritage Manager to join our dynamic team in Honolulu, Hawaii. This crucial role involves leading and managing cultural resource management projects, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, particularly those related to archaeological resources and historic properties in Hawaii. The successful candidate will be responsible for all phases of archaeological investigations, from initial survey to final reporting, and will play a key role in client relations and business development. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage archaeological field investigations, including surveys, testing, and data recovery programs.
  • Prepare comprehensive archaeological reports, cultural resource management plans, and environmental impact statements.
  • Ensure project compliance with relevant legislation such as NHPA, NEPA, HRS 6E, and other local regulations.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and resources effectively.
  • Supervise and mentor junior archaeologists and field technicians.
  • Engage with clients, regulatory agencies, Native Hawaiian organizations, and other stakeholders.
  • Participate in business development activities, including proposal writing and client outreach.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of a Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, Historic Preservation, or a related field.
  • At least 4 years (48 months) of progressive professional experience in cultural resource management, with significant experience in Hawaii.
  • Demonstrated expertise in Hawaiian archaeology and cultural resources.
  • Strong knowledge of federal and state cultural resource laws and regulations (e.g., NHPA, NEPA, HRS 6E).
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to write high-quality technical reports.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (ArcGIS).
  • Ability to lead field teams and work independently in diverse environmental conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Archaeology or related field.
  • Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) certification.
  • Experience with Section 106 and Section 4(f) processes.
  • Permits for archaeological work in Hawaii (e.g., State of Hawaii HPPD permit).
  • Experience in marine archaeology or submerged cultural resources.
