Job Description

This is an excellent entry-level opportunity for those with no prior experience, as full training will be provided to equip you with all the necessary skills to excel in this vital role. As a Hospital Porter, you will play a crucial part in the daily operations of Kelowna General Hospital, contributing directly to patient comfort and efficient care delivery. Your primary role will involve the safe and timely transport of patients, medical equipment, specimens, and supplies throughout the hospital. This position requires a strong work ethic, physical stamina, and a genuine desire to help others.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely transport patients via wheelchairs, stretchers, or beds to and from various departments, ensuring their comfort and dignity.
- Move medical equipment, supplies, specimens, and patient charts between wards and departments as required.
- Assist nursing and other healthcare staff with lifting and transferring patients.
- Respond promptly to requests for porter services.
- Ensure the cleanliness and proper functioning of transport equipment.
- Report any issues with equipment or patient safety concerns to the appropriate staff.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and safety regulations, including infection control protocols.
- Maintain a professional and compassionate demeanor when interacting with patients, visitors, and staff.
Required Skills
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in English.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, push, pull, and lift for extended periods.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively as part of a team.
- A genuine desire to learn and contribute to a healthcare environment.
- No prior experience required; full training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Basic computer literacy.
- Current First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience in a customer service role.
