Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated Chemistry Research Intern to join our Analytical Lab team in St Albans. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a dynamic pharmaceutical research environment. You will support our senior scientists in various analytical chemistry projects, contributing to the development and characterization of new compounds and formulations. This role is ideal for an undergraduate student with a strong academic background in chemistry and a keen interest in practical laboratory work.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior chemists in preparing samples for various analytical techniques, including HPLC, GC, and spectroscopy (UV-Vis, IR).
- Operate and maintain analytical instrumentation under supervision, ensuring data accuracy and instrument readiness.
- Perform routine laboratory tasks such as solution preparation, inventory management, and equipment calibration.
- Record and organize experimental data meticulously, contributing to lab notebooks and electronic data systems.
- Participate in laboratory safety training and adhere strictly to all health, safety, and environmental guidelines.
- Summarize experimental results and findings for team review, contributing to scientific discussions.
- Learn and apply new analytical methods and techniques as guided by experienced team members.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's degree program in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
- Fundamental understanding of general chemistry principles and laboratory safety practices.
- Ability to follow detailed experimental protocols accurately and precisely.
- Strong attention to detail and good organizational skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior academic lab experience with analytical instrumentation (e.g., basic chromatography, spectroscopy).
- Coursework completed in analytical chemistry or instrumental analysis.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently on assigned tasks with minimal supervision.
- A proactive attitude and a strong desire to learn and contribute to scientific research.
