Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and qualified Secondary Science Teacher specializing in Physics and Chemistry to join our vibrant academic team. This full-time position requires an educator who can inspire a love for science in students, deliver engaging and effective lessons, and contribute positively to our school community. The successful applicant will be responsible for teaching secondary-level Physics and Chemistry courses, preparing students for provincial examinations, and fostering a stimulating classroom environment. You will work within a supportive department, collaborating with colleagues to enhance the science curriculum and participate in school-wide initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver engaging lessons in secondary Physics and Chemistry, adhering to the Alberta curriculum.
  • Assess and evaluate student progress, providing constructive feedback and maintaining accurate records.
  • Create a positive, inclusive, and challenging learning environment for all students.
  • Collaborate with fellow science teachers to develop and implement innovative teaching strategies and curriculum enhancements.
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and school-based committees.
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and guardians regarding student performance and development.
  • Supervise extracurricular activities or clubs related to science, as required.
  • Maintain a safe and organized classroom and laboratory environment.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor of Education degree with a specialization in Secondary Science (Physics/Chemistry).
  • Valid teaching certification or eligibility for certification in Alberta.
  • Demonstrated expertise in teaching secondary Physics and Chemistry concepts.
  • Excellent classroom management and organizational skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
  • Proficiency in integrating technology into the classroom for instructional purposes.
  • Ability to obtain a satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Child Intervention Check.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Education or a related science field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience teaching secondary Physics and Chemistry.
  • Experience with diverse student populations and differentiated instruction.
  • Familiarity with the Alberta K-12 curriculum framework.
  • Experience with an inquiry-based learning approach.
