Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Local Authority Billing Clerk to join our finance department. This full-time, on-site position offers stable employment with consistent daytime hours and no weekend work. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately processing invoices, managing accounts, and assisting residents with billing inquiries, contributing directly to the financial health and smooth operation of our local authority services.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and generate accurate bills and invoices for municipal services (e.g., utilities, permits, property taxes).
- Maintain and update customer billing records and financial data within the system.
- Respond to resident inquiries regarding billing statements, payment options, and account discrepancies via phone, email, and in-person.
- Reconcile daily payments and deposits, ensuring all transactions are correctly posted.
- Prepare reports related to billing activities, accounts receivable, and collections efforts.
- Collaborate with other departments to resolve complex billing issues and improve efficiency.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations and internal policies.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in administrative or clerical roles, preferably with billing or accounting tasks.
- Proficiency in data entry and strong attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with the public and colleagues.
- Competency in using standard office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
