Job Description
Eversource Energy is seeking a dedicated and experienced Radiation Protection Advisor to join our safety and compliance team in Bridgeport, CT. This critical role involves developing, implementing, and overseeing radiation safety programs to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, as well as company policies. The Radiation Protection Advisor will provide expert guidance on radiation protection principles, conduct comprehensive surveys, respond to incidents, and train personnel. We are looking for a proactive individual with a strong commitment to safety and continuous improvement. Relocation assistance is available for qualified candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive radiation protection programs and procedures.
- Perform routine and specialized radiation surveys, audits, and assessments.
- Provide expert advice and guidance on radiation safety matters to various departments.
- Investigate radiation-related incidents, recommend corrective actions, and prepare detailed reports.
- Conduct radiation safety training for employees, contractors, and visitors.
- Ensure strict compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local radiation safety regulations (e.g., NRC, EPA, DOT).
- Manage and calibrate radiation detection equipment.
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills related to radiological hazards.
- Maintain accurate records of all radiation protection activities, dosimetry, and inventory.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Health Physics, Nuclear Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in radiation protection or health physics, preferably within a utility, industrial, or nuclear environment.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state radiation protection regulations and standards.
- Proficiency in radiation detection instrumentation and measurement techniques.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) certification (or ability to obtain).
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Health Physics or a related field.
- Certified Health Physicist (CHP) certification.
- Experience with radioactive material licensing and waste management.
- Familiarity with environmental monitoring and sampling techniques.
- Prior experience in a leadership or advisory role.
