Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Cartographer / GIS Specialist to join our dynamic team in Farnham. This hybrid role is crucial for developing, maintaining, and analyzing spatial data to support various projects across environmental consulting, infrastructure development, and urban planning. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in cartographic principles, GIS software proficiency, and a passion for data visualization and spatial analysis. This position is open to candidates requiring sponsorship.
Key Responsibilities
- Create, update, and manage high-quality maps, charts, and spatial databases using GIS software.
- Perform complex spatial analysis to derive insights and support project decision-making.
- Develop and maintain geospatial data layers, ensuring accuracy, integrity, and adherence to standards.
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, environmental scientists, and other stakeholders to understand project requirements and deliver tailored GIS solutions.
- Prepare detailed technical reports, presentations, and documentation related to GIS projects.
- Conduct quality control checks on geospatial data and products.
- Stay abreast of new GIS technologies, software, and industry best practices.
- Provide technical support and training to internal users on GIS applications.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in ArcGIS Desktop (Pro, ArcMap) or QGIS.
- Strong understanding of cartographic principles and map design.
- Experience with spatial data analysis and geoprocessing techniques.
- Knowledge of various geospatial data formats and projections.
- Familiarity with database management systems (e.g., PostgreSQL/PostGIS).
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Geography, Geomatics, GIS, Cartography, or a related field.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for GIS automation.
- Knowledge of web GIS platforms (e.g., ArcGIS Online, Mapbox GL JS).
- Experience with remote sensing data analysis.
- Familiarity with CAD software integration.
- Previous experience in an environmental consultancy or engineering firm.
