Job Description

Alectra Utilities is excited to offer an outstanding opportunity for an ambitious individual to join our team as a City Power Grid Trainee / Lineman Apprentice. This highly paid entry-level position requires no prior experience, as we provide all the necessary training to develop you into a skilled and vital member of our power distribution network. You will learn to work with high-voltage electricity, maintain critical infrastructure, and ensure the reliable flow of power to homes and businesses across Oakville. Key Responsibilities
- Actively participate in and successfully complete all assigned training programs, both theoretical and practical.
- Assist qualified Journeyman Linemen in the installation, maintenance, and repair of overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
- Learn and strictly adhere to all company safety policies, procedures, and industry regulations.
- Operate and maintain a variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles safely and efficiently.
- Perform basic tasks such as digging trenches, climbing poles, pulling cable, and preparing work sites under direct supervision.
- Participate in emergency response efforts, including power outage restoration, under supervision.
- Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and the public.
- Contribute to a positive and safe working environment.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Valid Ontario G Class Driver's License with a clean driving record.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and in various weather conditions.
- Excellent physical stamina and strength, capable of heavy lifting and manual labor.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety practices and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Eagerness and willingness to learn and adapt to new challenges.
- No prior experience in electrical utilities required; full training will be provided.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g., electrical trades, pre-apprenticeship program).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience with manual labor or outdoor work.
- Basic understanding of electrical principles.
