Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated Botanic Gardens Labourer with a strong horticulture focus to join our team. This role is crucial for maintaining the beauty and health of our precious botanic gardens, ensuring they remain vibrant and accessible spaces for the community and visitors. The successful candidate will contribute to various horticultural tasks, garden maintenance, and general labouring duties under the guidance of the Botanic Gardens Supervisor.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general garden maintenance, including planting, weeding, mulching, pruning, and watering.
- Operate and maintain horticultural equipment and tools safely and effectively (e.g., mowers, whipper snippers, blowers).
- Assist with pest and disease identification and control measures.
- Prepare garden beds and soil for planting.
- Participate in irrigation system installation, maintenance, and repair.
- Undertake general labouring tasks such as rubbish removal, path clearing, and minor repairs.
- Adhere to WHS policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Contribute to the upkeep of the Botanic Gardens infrastructure and facilities.
- Follow instructions from supervisors and work effectively as part of a team.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour in various weather conditions.
- Basic knowledge of horticultural practices and plant care.
- Ability to operate garden machinery and hand tools safely.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.
- Current C-Class Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate II or III in Horticulture, Parks and Gardens, or a related field.
- Previous experience in a botanic garden, park, or public space maintenance role.
- Experience with irrigation systems.
- Current First Aid Certificate.
