Job Description
Akron Aleworks is seeking a motivated and hardworking individual to join our production team as an Entry Level Cellar Person. This is an exciting opportunity for someone eager to learn the intricate processes of craft beer production from the ground up. You will be an integral part of our brewing operations, primarily focusing on the cellar where beer undergoes fermentation, conditioning, and finishing. This role involves significant ‘wet work’ – cleaning, sanitizing, and operating equipment in a production environment – and requires the ability to perform regular heavy lifting. No prior brewing experience is necessary; we are committed to providing comprehensive on-the-job training to the right candidate who demonstrates a strong work ethic and a desire to learn.
Key Responsibilities
- Thoroughly clean and sanitize tanks, hoses, and other brewery equipment to maintain the highest standards of hygiene.
- Assist with beer transfers between tanks, including racking, filtering, and centrifuging.
- Monitor fermentation processes, including taking samples, gravity readings, and pH measurements.
- Assist with yeast management, including harvesting and pitching.
- Support packaging operations (canning/bottling) as needed.
- Handle and move raw materials and finished products, requiring regular heavy lifting (up to 55 lbs).
- Operate and maintain cellar equipment safely and efficiently.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and quality control standards.
- Perform general brewery upkeep and cleaning tasks.
Required Skills
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 55 pounds regularly and stand for extended periods.
- Comfortable working in a wet, warm, and sometimes noisy production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to cleanliness and sanitation.
- A positive attitude and a strong willingness to learn and follow instructions.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
Preferred Qualifications
- A genuine passion for craft beer and the brewing industry.
- Basic mechanical aptitude or experience with machinery.
- Prior experience in a manufacturing, food production, or physically demanding role is a plus, but not required.
- Forklift certification is a bonus, but training will be provided if needed.
