Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Dairy Farm Herd Manager to oversee all aspects of our dairy herd operations in Victoria, British Columbia. The ideal candidate will be passionate about animal welfare, highly organized, and possess strong leadership skills. This role involves managing daily milking operations, implementing herd health programs, supervising staff, and ensuring the overall productivity and well-being of our dairy cattle. Key Responsibilities
- Manage and supervise daily milking operations, ensuring efficiency, hygiene, and product quality.
- Develop, implement, and monitor comprehensive herd health programs, including disease prevention, vaccination, and treatment protocols.
- Oversee breeding programs, including estrus detection, artificial insemination, and calving management.
- Monitor feed management and nutrition plans, collaborating with nutritionists to optimize herd performance and health.
- Supervise, train, and mentor farm staff, fostering a positive and productive work environment.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of herd data, production metrics, inventory, and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all animal welfare regulations, health and safety standards, and environmental guidelines.
- Perform routine maintenance and troubleshooting of dairy equipment and facilities.
- Order and manage inventory of supplies related to herd health, feed, and milking operations.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of proven experience in dairy herd management.
- Strong knowledge of animal husbandry, dairy cattle health, nutrition, and reproduction.
- Demonstrated leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in operating various farm machinery and equipment relevant to dairy operations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a demanding agricultural environment.
- Eligibility and willingness to pursue the Skilled Worker Route for immigration to Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education or certification in Agriculture, Animal Science, or a related field.
- Experience with dairy management software and record-keeping systems (e.g., DairyComp 305).
- Advanced knowledge of veterinary practices specific to dairy cattle.
- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
