Job Description
We are urgently seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Lumber Yard Forklift Operator to join our dynamic team in Bermondsey. This is an immediate hire opportunity for individuals who thrive in an outdoor, fast-paced environment and are proficient in operating forklifts. You will be instrumental in managing our timber stock, ensuring efficient movement and storage of materials crucial for our clients’ projects. This role requires resilience, attention to detail, and a commitment to maintaining high safety standards within a busy lumber yard setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate counterbalance forklifts to safely load, unload, stack, and move timber and other building materials within the yard.
- Perform daily pre-shift inspections of forklifts and other equipment, reporting any defects or maintenance needs.
- Accurately pick and prepare customer orders, ensuring correct quantities and quality of materials.
- Assist with manual handling of lumber and other products when required.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe work environment in the lumber yard.
- Adhere strictly to all company health and safety policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with yard staff and drivers to ensure smooth and efficient operations.
Required Skills
- Valid Counterbalance Forklift Operator certification (e.g., ITSSAR, RTITB).
- Proven experience operating forklifts, preferably in a timber yard, warehouse, or similar outdoor industrial environment.
- Strong understanding of health and safety regulations, particularly in a yard setting.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in various weather conditions.
- Good physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects.
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in managing inventory.
- Effective communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience specifically with long-load handling or timber products.
- Additional MHE licenses (e.g., Side Loader, Reach Truck).
- Basic computer literacy for stock management systems.
- First Aid certification.
