Job Description

Are you passionate about wildlife and looking for an entry-level opportunity to gain hands-on experience in animal care? Wilderness Oasis Zoological Park is seeking enthusiastic individuals for our Zookeeping & Large Animal Intern program. This internship provides invaluable training in the daily operations of a modern zoological facility, focusing specifically on the care and welfare of large mammals and exotic species. You will work closely with experienced zookeepers, learning the fundamentals of animal husbandry, exhibit maintenance, and behavioral enrichment. This is a foundational role designed for individuals with little to no prior experience, offering comprehensive mentorship and practical skills development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist zookeepers with daily animal care routines, including feeding, watering, and monitoring animal health.
  • Participate in cleaning and maintaining animal enclosures, exhibits, and holding areas.
  • Prepare diets according to strict nutritional guidelines.
  • Observe animal behavior and report any unusual activities or health concerns to senior staff.
  • Support the implementation of enrichment activities to promote natural behaviors.
  • Learn and adhere to all safety protocols and animal welfare standards.
  • Contribute to educational programs and guest interactions as opportunities arise.

  • Reliable, punctual, and highly motivated.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and learn quickly.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in Biology, Zoology, Animal Science, Environmental Studies, or a related field.
  • Previous volunteer experience with animals (though not required for entry).
  • First Aid/CPR certification.
