Job Description

As an Investor Relations Manager at Shopify, you will play a crucial role in shaping and communicating Shopify’s story to the investment community. You will be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with shareholders, analysts, and potential investors, ensuring a clear and consistent message about our strategic vision, financial performance, and growth opportunities. This position requires a blend of financial acumen, communication expertise, and a deep understanding of our business and industry. Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive investor relations strategy aligning with corporate goals.
  • Prepare and update investor presentations, press releases, and regulatory filings (e.g., SEDAR, SEC if applicable).
  • Serve as a primary contact for institutional investors and sell-side analysts, responding to inquiries and managing relationships.
  • Monitor and analyze analyst reports, market sentiment, and competitor activity, providing insights to senior management.
  • Organize and participate in investor conferences, roadshows, earnings calls, and one-on-one meetings.
  • Collaborate closely with internal teams including Finance, Legal, Communications, and Executive Leadership to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Manage the company's IR website and investor portal, ensuring timely and accurate information dissemination.
  • Track shareholder activity, ownership trends, and market valuation metrics.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in investor relations, corporate finance, equity research, or a related capital markets role.
  • Strong understanding of financial modeling, valuation techniques, and capital markets functions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial information clearly and concisely.
  • Proven ability to build and maintain credible relationships with the investment community.
  • Proficiency with financial data platforms (e.g., Bloomberg, Refinitiv, Capital IQ).
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, analytical capabilities, and attention to detail.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or CFA designation is highly preferred.
  • Experience within the technology or e-commerce industry.
  • Previous experience at a public company, particularly one listed on major North American exchanges.
  • Familiarity with Canadian capital markets and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience managing a company's earnings cycle.
