Job Description

We are seeking a meticulous and dedicated Bookkeeper to join our growing team in Colchester. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records for a diverse portfolio of clients, ensuring compliance and providing essential support to our accounting professionals. The ideal candidate will have a strong eye for detail, excellent organizational skills, and a proactive approach to managing financial data.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day bookkeeping tasks, including accounts payable and receivable.
  • Perform bank reconciliations and reconcile general ledger accounts.
  • Process invoices, expense reports, and payroll data accurately and on time.
  • Prepare VAT returns and ensure timely submission.
  • Assist with month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Maintain organized financial records and documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with clients to resolve queries and gather necessary information.
  • Support the wider accounting team with various financial tasks as required.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience as a Bookkeeper or in a similar financial role (minimum 2 years).
  • Solid understanding of basic bookkeeping and accounting principles.
  • Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Xero, QuickBooks, Sage).
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal.

Preferred Qualifications

  • AAT qualification (Level 3 or 4).
  • Experience working with multiple clients or within an accounting practice.
  • Familiarity with UK tax regulations, including VAT.
