Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Acoustics & Audio Engineering Intern to join our dynamic sound design team in Leith, Edinburgh. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the world-class video game development environment. You will work closely with experienced audio engineers and sound designers, assisting in various stages of the audio production pipeline, from initial sound recording to implementation and post-processing. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about sound, eager to learn, and looking to kick-start their career in audio engineering and sound design within the gaming industry. You will be provided with mentorship and training to develop your skills in a professional setting.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the audio team with sound effect creation, editing, and integration into game engines.
  • Conduct audio quality assurance testing to identify and report issues, ensuring high fidelity and immersive soundscapes.
  • Support the recording and processing of audio assets using professional equipment and software.
  • Help maintain and organize the sound library, ensuring assets are properly categorized and accessible.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions and contribute creative ideas for in-game audio experiences.
  • Document audio processes, tools, and workflows to support team efficiency.
  • Learn and apply best practices in game audio development under guidance from senior team members.

Required Skills

  • Basic understanding of acoustics, audio engineering principles, and digital audio workstations (DAWs).
  • Familiarity with sound design concepts and techniques.
  • Proficiency with at least one major DAW (e.g., Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Logic Pro, Reaper).
  • Strong passion for video games and an interest in interactive audio.
  • Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Eagerness to learn new technologies and workflows.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree program in Audio Engineering, Sound Design, Music Technology, or a related field.
  • Experience with audio middleware such as Wwise or FMOD.
  • Basic knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, C#) or visual scripting.
  • A portfolio or demo reel showcasing personal sound design projects or audio work.
