Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Public Sector Fleet Dispatcher to join our Transport Department in Baton Rouge, LA. The successful candidate will be responsible for the efficient scheduling, dispatching, and tracking of municipal vehicles and personnel. This role is crucial in ensuring that our city services run smoothly and effectively, supporting various departments from public works to emergency response. You will act as the central communication hub, coordinating resources, managing schedules, and responding to service requests with precision and professionalism. This is an on-site position requiring a strong commitment to operational excellence and public service.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and coordinate the daily dispatch of municipal vehicles and equipment for various city departments.
  • Monitor fleet movements using tracking systems and provide real-time updates.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, field personnel, and departmental supervisors regarding assignments, delays, and issues.
  • Maintain accurate records of vehicle usage, maintenance schedules, and driver logs.
  • Respond to and prioritize emergency service requests and re-route vehicles as necessary.
  • Assist in optimizing routes and schedules to improve efficiency and reduce operational costs.
  • Prepare daily reports on dispatch activities, fleet status, and service performance.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and departmental policies.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in using dispatch software and GPS tracking systems.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and make quick, informed decisions.
  • Basic computer literacy (Microsoft Office Suite).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's degree in Logistics, Transportation, or a related field.
  • 2+ years of experience in fleet dispatch or a similar role, preferably in the public sector.
  • Familiarity with Baton Rouge geography and municipal operations.
  • Knowledge of vehicle maintenance schedules and procedures.
  • Experience with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.
