Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Welding Inspector / Metallurgist to join our team in Abilene, TX. This critical role involves ensuring the integrity and quality of welded components and materials used in our advanced energy solutions. You will be responsible for conducting thorough inspections, performing metallurgical analyses, and providing expert guidance to maintain our high standards. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct visual and non-destructive testing (NDT) inspections of welded structures and components.
- Perform metallurgical analysis, including microstructural evaluation, hardness testing, and failure analysis.
- Interpret blueprints, welding specifications, and codes (AWS, API, ASME) to ensure compliance.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, documenting findings, discrepancies, and corrective actions.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to resolve welding and material-related issues.
- Monitor welding processes and procedures to ensure adherence to established standards and best practices.
- Participate in the development and qualification of welding procedures and welder performance.
- Provide technical support and training on welding and metallurgical principles to junior staff.
- Maintain calibration of inspection equipment and ensure proper functioning.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in welding inspection or metallurgy roles.
- Strong knowledge of welding processes (e.g., SMAW, GTAW, FCAW, SAW) and associated defects.
- Proficiency in interpreting and applying industry codes and standards (AWS D1.1, ASME Section IX, API 1104).
- Experience with various NDT methods (VT, PT, MT, UT).
- Ability to perform metallurgical laboratory tests and interpret results.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong communication and report writing abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel).
Preferred Qualifications
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.
- NACE/AMPP certification or equivalent.
- Bachelor's degree in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Welding Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience with advanced NDT techniques (e.g., Phased Array UT, TOFD).
- Familiarity with materials used in the oil and gas industry.
