Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Purchasing Manager to join our operations team in Cheltenham. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our purchasing processes, from supplier selection and negotiation to contract management and inventory optimization. This role is critical to ensuring the efficient and cost-effective acquisition of materials and services necessary for our manufacturing and operational excellence. You will lead a team of purchasing professionals and collaborate closely with engineering, production, and finance departments to support our global objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement purchasing strategies that align with company goals and objectives.
- Manage and optimize supplier relationships, including negotiation of contracts, pricing, and terms.
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of purchasing professionals.
- Identify and qualify new suppliers to enhance supply chain resilience and cost efficiency.
- Monitor market trends, raw material costs, and supply chain risks to inform purchasing decisions.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to forecast demand and manage inventory levels effectively.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, ethical standards, and regulatory requirements.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the purchasing department.
- Prepare and present reports on purchasing performance, cost savings, and supplier metrics.
Required Skills
- Minimum 5 years of experience in a purchasing or supply chain management role, preferably within an engineering or manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record of successful supplier negotiation and contract management.
- Strong leadership and team management skills.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Proficiency in ERP systems and purchasing software.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, or a related field.
- CIPS certification (Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply).
- Experience with global sourcing and international supply chains.
- Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
