Job Description
We are seeking reliable and dedicated Snow Plow / Gritter Drivers to join our team for a seasonal public sector contract in Belfast. This critical role involves operating specialized vehicles to spread grit and clear snow from roads, ensuring public safety and maintaining essential transportation routes during adverse winter weather conditions. Successful candidates will be instrumental in delivering a vital service to the community. This is a seasonal contract position, with work primarily required during colder months and periods of inclement weather, often involving unsocial hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, as dictated by weather conditions. Full training on specific gritting and snow plowing equipment will be provided to suitable candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate snow plow and gritting vehicles safely and efficiently on designated routes.
- Spread de-icing materials (grit/salt) as per operational guidelines.
- Monitor weather conditions and respond to call-outs promptly.
- Perform pre-shift and post-shift vehicle checks, reporting any defects.
- Adhere strictly to all road safety regulations and company policies.
- Maintain accurate records of routes completed, materials used, and hours worked.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members.
- Ensure the vehicle is kept clean and maintained in good working order.
Required Skills
- Valid UK Driving Licence (HGV Class C or C+E preferred).
- Driver CPC qualification (where applicable).
- Digital Tachograph Card.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays, on short notice.
- Strong commitment to safety and adherence to procedures.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Good communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience operating heavy goods vehicles.
- Experience in winter maintenance or similar seasonal operational roles.
- Knowledge of local road networks in Belfast and surrounding areas.
- Basic mechanical knowledge for routine vehicle checks.
