Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Marine Mammal Training Intern to join our team. This entry-level internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the exciting field of marine mammal care and positive reinforcement training. Under the direct supervision of experienced animal care specialists, interns will assist with daily husbandry, observe training sessions, and contribute to the overall well-being of our aquatic residents. This is an immersive learning experience designed for individuals with a passion for marine life and a strong desire to pursue a career in zoological environments. Full training will be provided.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist marine mammal trainers with daily routines, including diet preparation and habitat maintenance.
  • Observe and document animal behavior during training sessions and free time.
  • Learn and apply positive reinforcement techniques under trainer guidance.
  • Support educational presentations and guest interactions related to marine mammals.
  • Contribute to the cleanliness and upkeep of animal care facilities.
  • Accurately record and manage daily animal care data.
  • Participate in team meetings and training seminars.

Required Skills

  • Passion for marine animals and conservation.
  • Strong work ethic and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to follow instructions meticulously and work independently or as part of a team.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Comfortable working in diverse weather conditions and physically demanding environments.
  • Proficiency in swimming and comfort in aquatic settings.
  • Must be 18 years or older.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant biology, zoology, marine biology, or animal science program.
  • Previous volunteer or observational experience at a zoo, aquarium, or animal care facility.
  • Basic knowledge of operant conditioning principles.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
