Job Description
As a Drydock / Shipyard Laborer, you will perform a variety of essential manual tasks to support shipbuilding, repair, and maintenance operations within our dynamic shipyard environment. This is a physically demanding role requiring dedication, attention to safety, and a willingness to work outdoors in various conditions. You will be an integral part of our team, contributing directly to the successful completion of complex maritime projects. Full training will be provided for specific shipyard procedures and safety protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general cleanup and maintenance of shipyard areas, drydocks, and workshops.
- Assist skilled tradespersons (welders, pipefitters, electricians, etc.) with various tasks, including material handling, rigging, and tool preparation.
- Operate basic hand and power tools safely and efficiently.
- Transport materials, equipment, and supplies across the shipyard using appropriate methods.
- Prepare surfaces for painting, welding, or other treatments by grinding, sanding, and cleaning.
- Support vessel docking and undocking procedures.
- Adhere strictly to all safety regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Assist with the setup and breakdown of job sites and equipment.
- Report any safety hazards or equipment malfunctions immediately to supervisors.
Required Skills
- Ability to perform physically demanding work, including lifting heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), bending, stooping, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Basic understanding of industrial safety practices.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions effectively.
- Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and environments.
- Team-oriented attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a heavy industrial, construction, or maritime environment.
- Experience operating forklifts, overhead cranes, or other heavy equipment (certification a plus).
- OSHA 10 or 30 certification.
- Basic mechanical aptitude.
