Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Youth Offending Team Assistant to join our dynamic team in Doncaster. This rewarding role involves providing essential administrative, practical, and direct support to the Youth Offending Team (YOT) officers and the young people under their supervision. You will be an integral part of a service that works to reduce re-offending, promote positive outcomes for young offenders, and ensure they engage effectively with intervention programmes. This position offers a unique opportunity to contribute significantly to local youth justice and community safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive administrative support to Youth Offending Team Officers, including managing diaries, scheduling appointments, and maintaining accurate records.
  • Assist in the preparation of reports, court documents, and other relevant correspondence.
  • Liaise with young people, families, victims, and other agencies (e.g., police, probation, social services, education providers) to facilitate effective communication and service delivery.
  • Support YOT officers in coordinating and delivering restorative justice interventions and community-based activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all data protection policies and safeguarding procedures.
  • Attend meetings and take minutes as required, ensuring accurate documentation of discussions and decisions.
  • Contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of services, providing feedback to improve practice.
  • Safely transport young people to appointments or activities when necessary, adhering to council transport policies.
  • Undertake basic risk assessments under supervision and report concerns promptly.

Required Skills

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in an administrative or support role, preferably within a public sector, social care, or youth-focused environment.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills with the ability to prioritise a varied workload.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with diverse groups.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • A genuine interest in youth justice and the welfare of young people.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality and safeguarding principles.
  • Full UK Driving Licence and access to a vehicle for business use.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Business Administration, Social Care, or a related field.
  • Experience working directly with young people or vulnerable individuals.
  • Knowledge of the youth justice system and relevant legislation.
