Job Description
Are you passionate about helping others in times of crisis? The New Brunswick Department of Social Development is seeking empathetic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Trainee Crisis Hotline Operators. This is an entry-level position where comprehensive training will be provided to equip you with the skills and knowledge needed to offer vital support to individuals experiencing various crises. You will play a crucial role in providing immediate, compassionate, and confidential assistance to those in distress, connecting them with appropriate resources, and ensuring their safety and well-being. This role involves shift work, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays, to ensure 24/7 coverage for our community.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete comprehensive training on crisis intervention techniques, active listening, and resource navigation.
- Respond promptly and professionally to incoming calls from individuals in crisis.
- Provide empathetic and non-judgmental support to callers, assessing their needs and emotional state.
- De-escalate critical situations and help callers develop immediate safety plans.
- Refer callers to appropriate community resources, mental health services, and emergency services as needed.
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of all calls and interactions.
- Collaborate with a supportive team of experienced operators and supervisors.
- Adhere to all departmental policies, procedures, and ethical guidelines.
- Participate in ongoing professional development and debriefing sessions.

Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience in a support role or community service.
- Familiarity with local community resources in New Brunswick.
