Job Description

Join Skinner Auctioneers as a Government Surplus Auction Assistant and play a crucial role in managing and preparing diverse government surplus items for public auction. This active, hands-on position involves everything from receiving and cataloging inventory to assisting with auction day logistics. You will work closely with our experienced team to ensure a smooth and efficient auction process, contributing to the successful disposition of a wide array of government assets. This role is perfect for an energetic individual who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is eager to learn about the auction industry and government surplus management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the receiving, sorting, and inventorying of government surplus items.
  • Accurately catalog items, including data entry and photography, ensuring detailed descriptions for auction listings.
  • Prepare items for auction, which may include cleaning, minor repairs, and staging.
  • Safely move and organize inventory within the warehouse using appropriate equipment.
  • Support auction setup and breakdown, including display arrangements and item retrieval.
  • Provide on-site support during auction events, assisting bidders and staff as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and company procedures.
  • Contribute to maintaining a clean and organized work environment.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including data entry.
  • Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) regularly.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
  • A proactive and adaptable approach to tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a warehouse, logistics, or retail environment.
  • Familiarity with auction processes or inventory management systems.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Experience operating pallet jacks or other warehouse equipment.
