Job Description
We are seeking dedicated and reliable Public School Bus Drivers to ensure the safe and timely transport of students within the Colchester area. This crucial role operates during school term time only, offering an excellent work-life balance, aligned with school holidays. As a School Bus Driver, you will be responsible for the welfare of our students while on board, performing daily vehicle checks, and adhering to strict schedules and safety protocols. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate a school bus on designated routes, adhering to timetables and traffic regulations.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections, reporting any defects promptly.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers, maintaining order and enforcing school bus rules.
- Assist students with boarding and alighting, including those with special needs as required.
- Communicate effectively with school staff, parents, and supervisors regarding route changes, delays, or incidents.
- Maintain a clean and orderly bus interior.
- Adhere to all council policies and procedures, including those related to safeguarding children and vulnerable adults.
Required Skills
- Valid UK PCV (Passenger Carrying Vehicle – Category D) driving licence.
- Minimum of 24 months professional driving experience.
- A clean driving record with no major endorsements.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when interacting with children and parents.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- Commitment to safety and adherence to all road safety regulations.
- Must successfully pass an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience driving school buses or transporting children.
- Knowledge of the Colchester road network.
- First Aid certification.
- Experience working with individuals with special educational needs.
