Job Description
We are seeking a motivated and compassionate Recreational Therapy Intern to join our dynamic Rehabilitation Center team. This internship offers a valuable opportunity for aspiring recreational therapists to gain hands-on experience in a supportive clinical environment. You will work under the direct supervision of certified recreational therapists, assisting in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of therapeutic recreation programs for patients recovering from various injuries, illnesses, and disabilities. This is an entry-level position designed for students or recent graduates eager to learn and contribute to patient recovery and well-being.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified recreational therapists in conducting patient assessments to identify leisure interests and functional abilities.
- Support the development and implementation of individualized and group recreational therapy programs.
- Facilitate therapeutic activities such as adaptive sports, arts and crafts, music, games, and community reintegration outings.
- Document patient participation, progress, and responses to interventions in accordance with facility guidelines.
- Maintain therapeutic equipment and activity supplies, ensuring a safe and organized environment.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members, including physical therapists, occupational therapists, and nurses, to integrate recreational therapy into overall patient care plans.
- Participate in team meetings, in-service training, and supervision sessions.
- Adhere to all hospital policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Recreational Therapy or a related field (e.g., Therapeutic Recreation, Health Sciences).
- Strong passion for helping others and a genuine interest in recreational therapy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently with supervision.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Commitment to patient confidentiality and professional ethics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer or observation experience in a healthcare or rehabilitation setting.
- Knowledge of various recreational therapy modalities and adaptive techniques.
- CPR and First Aid certification.
