Job Description
Atlantic IP Solutions Group is seeking a dedicated and experienced Intellectual Property (IP) Attorney to join our dynamic team in Sydney, Nova Scotia. This is a unique opportunity for a skilled legal professional specializing in IP law, with full visa sponsorship available for qualified international candidates. The successful applicant will play a crucial role in advising clients on all aspects of IP protection, strategy, and enforcement. We are looking for an attorney with a strong background in patent prosecution, trademark registration, and IP litigation support, capable of managing complex portfolios and providing strategic counsel. You will work within a supportive environment, collaborating with senior attorneys and directly engaging with clients to protect their most valuable innovations and brands. This role demands a proactive individual with excellent analytical skills, a meticulous attention to detail, and a passion for intellectual property law.
Key Responsibilities
- Drafting and prosecuting patent applications across various technical fields.
- Conducting freedom-to-operate, patentability, and validity analyses.
- Advising clients on trademark selection, clearance, registration, and enforcement.
- Managing trademark portfolios and responding to office actions.
- Providing legal opinions and strategic advice on IP matters, including copyright and industrial designs.
- Assisting with IP due diligence for corporate transactions.
- Supporting IP litigation efforts, including discovery, motions, and trial preparation.
- Negotiating and drafting IP-related agreements, such as licenses and assignments.
- Staying abreast of developments in IP law and advising clients on their implications.
- Mentoring junior legal staff and contributing to firm knowledge initiatives.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent law degree.
- Licensed to practice law in at least one Canadian province or eligible for licensure.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing intellectual property law.
- Proven experience in patent prosecution, trademark law, or IP litigation.
- Excellent analytical, research, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively.
- High level of integrity and professional ethics.
Preferred Qualifications
- Registration with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) as a Patent Agent or Trademark Agent.
- An undergraduate degree in engineering, computer science, or a related technical field.
- Experience with international IP filings (e.g., PCT, Madrid Protocol).
- Proficiency in additional languages relevant to international IP practice.
- Demonstrated experience in handling complex IP disputes and negotiations.
