Job Description
Pryor Towing & Recovery is seeking a dedicated and resilient Towing Dispatcher to join our fast-paced operations in Birmingham. This is a critical role requiring exceptional problem-solving skills, the ability to thrive under pressure, and a commitment to shift work, including nights, weekends, and holidays. As the central communication hub, you will be responsible for coordinating immediate responses to calls for assistance, ensuring the swift and safe dispatch of our fleet to individuals in distress. This position demands a cool head, sharp decision-making, and a strong sense of urgency to manage dynamic situations effectively.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize incoming calls for towing and roadside assistance services.
- Dispatch tow trucks and service vehicles efficiently based on location, urgency, and resource availability.
- Maintain constant communication with drivers, providing updates and managing their routes.
- Monitor service progress and ensure timely completion of assignments.
- Accurately record all dispatch activities, call details, and service logs in the system.
- Provide clear and concise instructions to drivers and callers during high-stress situations.
- Handle emergency calls with composure and escalate critical incidents as necessary.
- Collaborate with other dispatchers and supervisors to optimize fleet utilization.
- Provide excellent customer service to distressed callers, offering reassurance and clear information.
- Troubleshoot basic vehicle issues over the phone when appropriate.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to work effectively in a high-stress, fast-paced environment.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making capabilities under pressure.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in multi-tasking and managing multiple incoming requests simultaneously.
- Basic computer skills and familiarity with dispatching software or willingness to learn.
- Geographical knowledge of Birmingham and surrounding areas, or ability to quickly learn.
- Reliability and availability for various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Customer service-oriented mindset with empathy and patience.
- Minimum of 12 months experience in a customer service, call center, or similar environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in dispatching, emergency services, or logistics.
- Familiarity with GPS tracking and fleet management systems.
- Ability to read maps and navigate using digital tools efficiently.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) is a plus.
