Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and innovative Solar Energy Engineer to join our growing renewable energy team in Earlsdon, Coventry. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and implementation of solar photovoltaic (PV) systems for residential, commercial, and utility-scale projects. You will contribute to every stage of the project lifecycle, from initial feasibility studies and system design to commissioning and performance monitoring, ensuring optimal energy generation and efficiency. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site assessments, feasibility studies, and energy audits for potential solar PV installations.
  • Design and engineer grid-tied and off-grid solar PV systems, including module selection, inverter sizing, balance of system (BOS) components, and wiring diagrams.
  • Perform energy yield assessments and simulations using specialized software (e.g., PVsyst, Helioscope).
  • Prepare detailed technical specifications, project proposals, and construction drawings for solar projects.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant electrical codes, safety standards, and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with project managers, installers, and other stakeholders to ensure successful project execution.
  • Provide technical support during installation, commissioning, and operation of solar PV systems.
  • Monitor system performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend optimization strategies.
  • Stay updated with the latest solar technology advancements, industry trends, and regulatory changes.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in solar PV system design and engineering.
  • Proficiency with solar design software (e.g., PVsyst, AutoCAD, SketchUp).
  • Strong understanding of electrical codes (e.g., BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations) and safety standards.
  • Knowledge of different solar PV technologies, inverters, and battery storage systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) or Chartered Engineer (CEng) registration.
  • Experience with project management software.
  • Knowledge of energy storage solutions and hybrid power systems.
  • Familiarity with UK planning regulations for renewable energy projects.
