Job Description

We are seeking an enthusiastic and detail-oriented Museum Assistant to join our dedicated team within the Sunshine Coast Council’s Cultural Services division. This state cultural role is based in beautiful Noosa Heads and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the preservation and interpretation of our local heritage. The successful candidate will support the daily operations of our cultural facilities, ensuring a welcoming and informative experience for all visitors. This is a public sector role that requires a commitment to community service and cultural enrichment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily operations of museum facilities, including opening and closing procedures.
  • Provide excellent customer service to visitors, answering inquiries and providing information about exhibitions and programs.
  • Process admissions, merchandise sales, and bookings using point-of-sale systems.
  • Assist with the cataloging, handling, and display of collection items under supervision.
  • Support the planning and delivery of educational programs and public events.
  • Conduct basic administrative tasks, including data entry, record keeping, and responding to general emails.
  • Monitor exhibition spaces to ensure visitor safety and security of collections.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and presentation of public areas and exhibition spaces.
  • Assist with inventory management of retail items and promotional materials.
  • Collaborate with other team members to achieve departmental goals and initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in customer service or a public-facing role.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Basic computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • A genuine interest in arts, culture, and heritage.
  • Ability to handle cash and operate a point-of-sale system.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A qualification in Museum Studies, Heritage Management, Arts Administration, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working or volunteering in a museum, gallery, or cultural institution.
  • Experience with collection management databases.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
