Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Junior Network Engineer to join our dynamic team in Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity for a recent graduate or an individual with foundational networking knowledge to kickstart their career with a global leader in telecommunications. You will work closely with senior engineers, assisting in the design, implementation, and maintenance of our extensive network infrastructure, playing a crucial role in ensuring the reliability and performance of our services. This hybrid role offers a blend of office collaboration and remote flexibility.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the deployment, configuration, and troubleshooting of network devices including routers, switches, and firewalls.
- Monitor network performance and availability, responding to alerts and resolving basic network incidents.
- Support senior engineers in network upgrades, patches, and routine maintenance activities.
- Document network configurations, procedures, and troubleshooting steps.
- Participate in on-call rotation as required after gaining sufficient experience.
- Collaborate with internal teams to understand network requirements and provide support.
- Learn and apply best practices for network security and operations.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives for network services.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies.
- Familiarity with network protocols such as OSPF, BGP, and EIGRP.
- Knowledge of Cisco IOS or similar network operating systems.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
- A degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Network Engineering, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certification or equivalent.
- Experience with network monitoring tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Nagios).
- Basic understanding of cloud networking concepts (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Prior internship or project experience in a networking role.
- Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for network automation.
