Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive School Crossing Guard Supervisor to oversee the safe passage of children across designated roads around schools within Nottingham. This vital role involves managing a team of School Crossing Guards, ensuring adherence to safety protocols, scheduling, training, and acting as a primary point of contact for schools and community members regarding crossing guard services. You will play a crucial part in promoting road safety and protecting the city’s children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise, train, and manage a team of School Crossing Guards, ensuring consistent service delivery and adherence to safety guidelines.
  • Develop and manage crossing guard schedules, ensuring adequate coverage for all assigned locations.
  • Conduct regular site visits to monitor performance, assess risk, and provide on-the-spot support and guidance.
  • Act as a liaison between the School Crossing Guard team, schools, parents, and other council departments.
  • Investigate and resolve operational issues, complaints, or concerns related to crossing guard services.
  • Maintain accurate records of attendance, incidents, and performance.
  • Ensure all equipment is well-maintained and in proper working order.
  • Assist in the recruitment and onboarding of new School Crossing Guards.
  • Promote a positive and safety-conscious work environment.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in a supervisory or team leadership role.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with staff, children, parents, and the public.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in dynamic situations.
  • A strong commitment to child safety and community service.
  • Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel) for scheduling and record-keeping.
  • Must possess a valid UK driving license and have access to a vehicle for travel across the city.
  • Successful completion of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check upon employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in a public safety, community services, or educational environment.
  • Knowledge of local government operations and procedures.
  • First Aid certification.
