Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Fire Safety Practitioner – Compliance to join our team in Mount Isa. This vital role involves ensuring that all our facilities and operations comply with Australian fire safety regulations, standards, and company policies. You will be responsible for conducting inspections, risk assessments, and developing compliance strategies to maintain the highest levels of fire safety across our sites. This on-site role is critical in protecting our people, property, and the environment through proactive and reactive fire safety management.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct regular fire safety audits and inspections of facilities to ensure compliance with AS standards and relevant legislation.
- Develop, implement, and maintain fire safety management plans and procedures.
- Investigate fire incidents, near misses, and non-compliance issues, providing detailed reports and recommendations.
- Liaise with external regulatory bodies, emergency services, and internal stakeholders on fire safety matters.
- Provide expert advice and training on fire safety protocols to staff and contractors.
- Ensure all fire safety equipment is correctly maintained, tested, and recorded according to schedule.
- Prepare and present compliance reports to management, highlighting areas of risk and recommended actions.
Required Skills
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a fire safety or compliance role.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Australian fire safety standards (e.g., AS 1851, AS 2444, AS 3745) and relevant building codes.
- Proficiency in conducting fire risk assessments and developing mitigation strategies.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly.
- Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team in a demanding industrial environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant tertiary qualification in fire safety, building surveying, WHS, or a related field.
- Certification as a Fire Safety Assessor or similar industry accreditation.
- Experience working within the mining, industrial, or large-scale facility management sectors.
- Current Queensland driver's license.
