Job Description
As the Risk and Safety Lead – Aged Care at our Maroochydore facility, you will be instrumental in fostering a culture of safety and continuous improvement. This critical role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring robust risk management and WHS strategies to ensure compliance with all relevant legislation and best practice standards within the aged care sector. You will lead initiatives to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement effective controls, ensuring a safe environment for both residents and staff. Your expertise will be vital in safeguarding the well-being of our community and upholding our commitment to high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive risk management frameworks and WHS policies in line with aged care standards and regulations.
- Conduct regular risk assessments, audits, and safety inspections across the facility, identifying hazards and recommending corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigation processes, analyse root causes, and implement strategies to prevent recurrence.
- Provide expert advice and guidance to staff on all aspects of risk and safety, including manual handling, infection control, and emergency procedures.
- Manage WHS training programs, ensuring all employees are competent and compliant with safety protocols.
- Oversee the reporting of WHS incidents and compliance metrics to management and relevant regulatory bodies.
- Foster a proactive safety culture through communication, education, and engagement with all staff members.
- Ensure continuous improvement in risk and safety practices by staying updated with industry best practices and regulatory changes.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in risk management and Workplace Health and Safety (WHS), specifically within the aged care or healthcare sector.
- Strong understanding of relevant Australian WHS legislation, aged care quality standards, and accreditation requirements.
- Demonstrated ability to develop, implement, and audit WHS management systems.
- Excellent incident investigation and root cause analysis skills.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and leadership abilities.
- Proficiency in risk assessment methodologies and control implementation.
- Relevant tertiary qualification in WHS, Risk Management, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postgraduate qualification in Occupational Health and Safety or Risk Management.
- Experience with continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Current First Aid and CPR certification.
- Experience working with digital risk management platforms.
