Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and meticulous Data Governance Officer to join our stable financial sector team on the Gold Coast. This crucial role involves safeguarding the integrity, security, and usability of our enterprise data assets. You will be instrumental in developing, implementing, and enforcing data governance policies and standards, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and promoting a culture of data excellence across the organisation. Key Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and maintain data governance policies, standards, and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Monitor data quality metrics and work with business units to resolve data quality issues.
- Facilitate the classification and management of critical data elements and their metadata.
- Support the implementation of data stewardship programs and roles within various departments.
- Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure compliance with data governance policies and identify areas for improvement.
- Provide training and guidance to staff on data governance principles and best practices.
- Collaborate with IT, legal, compliance, and business teams to ensure data governance frameworks are integrated across the enterprise.
- Participate in risk assessment activities related to data management and propose mitigation strategies.
- Prepare reports on data governance effectiveness and compliance for management.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in data governance, data management, or a related field within the financial sector (typically 3-5 years).
- Strong understanding of data governance principles, data quality, data security, and data privacy regulations (e.g., APRA CPS 234, GDPR, CCPA).
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
- Ability to interpret complex regulations and translate them into actionable policies.
- Proficiency in data analysis tools and governance platforms.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, capable of influencing stakeholders at all levels.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Business Administration, Finance, or a related field.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., CDMP, CISM, CIPP).
- Experience with data governance tools and technologies (e.g., Collibra, Informatica, Alation).
- Knowledge of Australian financial services regulations and compliance frameworks.
- Familiarity with data warehousing, data lakes, and business intelligence concepts.
