Job Description

Albany Animal Wellness Center is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated Entry Level Animal Care Helper to join our growing team. This is an excellent opportunity for individuals with little to no prior experience in a veterinary setting, as we are committed to providing full training for the right candidate. You will play a crucial role in supporting our veterinary staff, ensuring the comfort and well-being of our animal patients, and maintaining a clean and safe clinic environment. Key Responsibilities
- Assist veterinarians and veterinary technicians with animal handling and restraint during examinations and procedures.
- Clean and sterilize examination rooms, surgical instruments, and general clinic areas.
- Feed, water, and exercise boarding animals, following specific care instructions.
- Monitor animal behavior and report any changes or concerns to veterinary staff.
- Assist with laundry, stocking supplies, and general upkeep of the clinic.
- Comfort and reassure nervous or anxious pets and their owners.
- Learn and adhere to all clinic safety protocols and animal care standards.
- Participate in continuing education and training as required.
Required Skills
- Genuine love and compassion for animals.
- Ability to learn quickly and follow instructions precisely.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle physical demands of the job, including lifting up to 40 lbs.
- Comfortable working with various types of animals, including those that may be stressed or anxious.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous volunteer experience at an animal shelter or rescue organization.
- Basic knowledge of animal behavior or pet care.
- Enrolled in or considering a veterinary assistant program.
