Job Description
Join our passionate team at Pet Valu Swift Current as an Aquarium & Exotic Pet Store Assistant. This exciting role is perfect for individuals with a genuine love for animals, particularly aquatic life, reptiles, and small exotic pets. You will be responsible for the daily care and maintenance of our diverse animal inventory, ensuring their habitats are clean and their needs are met. Beyond animal care, you’ll engage with customers, providing expert advice on pet selection, nutrition, and husbandry, contributing to a positive shopping experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily feeding, cleaning, and maintenance of all aquarium tanks, terrariums, and small animal habitats.
- Monitor animal health and well-being, reporting any concerns to management.
- Assist customers with the selection of aquatic and exotic pets, providing knowledgeable advice on care, feeding, and habitat setup.
- Educate customers on proper pet nutrition, products, and accessories.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the exotic pet and aquarium departments.
- Process sales transactions, manage inventory, and restock shelves as needed.
- Participate in ongoing training to enhance knowledge of pet care and products.
- Assist with receiving and quarantining new animal arrivals.
Required Skills
- A genuine passion for animals, especially aquatic, reptile, and small exotic pets.
- Strong work ethic and ability to follow detailed instructions.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Basic computer proficiency.
- Physical ability to lift up to 25 lbs, stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with animals in a retail or care setting (volunteer or paid).
- Knowledge of various fish species, reptile care, and small animal husbandry.
- Experience with point-of-sale systems.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
