Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and physically capable Skip Bin Sorter to join our Port Augusta team. This is a hands-on, outdoor role perfect for individuals who enjoy active work and contributing to environmental sustainability. As a Skip Bin Sorter, you will be responsible for manually sorting various materials from skip bins, ensuring proper segregation for recycling and disposal. This role requires attention to detail, a strong commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in an outdoor industrial environment, regardless of weather conditions. Full training will be provided to the successful candidate, making it an excellent opportunity for those looking to start a career in the waste management sector.
Key Responsibilities
- Manually sort and separate recyclable materials from general waste within skip bins.
- Identify and remove hazardous materials or prohibited items according to company safety guidelines.
- Maintain a clean and organised sorting area.
- Operate basic site equipment as required, following safety protocols (e.g., small hand tools).
- Adhere to all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures and company policies.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors.
- Perform other general labouring duties as directed.
Required Skills
- Physical fitness and stamina to perform repetitive manual tasks and lift objects.
- Ability to work effectively outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail for accurate material sorting.
- Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Commitment to workplace safety and environmental compliance.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar outdoor, manual labour, or industrial environment.
- Basic understanding of waste types and recycling processes.
- Current OHS White Card (or willingness to obtain one).
- Forklift license (highly regarded but not essential).
